I’m new to the Thai visa process and recently applied for the Non-OA visa. While rereading the requirements for the LTR Visa: Wealthy Pensioners, I noticed that I may qualify. Is it possible and advisable to apply for multiple visas? The LTR visa is processed through Bangkok instead of the Thai embassy in the US, which is my case. Can I apply for the LTR Visa while residing in Thailand, or should I apply before leaving the US? It seems that either way is possible.
Is there any harm in applying for the LTR Visa, even if things don’t work out?

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is exploring whether it's possible to apply for the LTR Visa while currently holding a Non-OA visa. Key concerns include the application process, the possibility of applying while in Thailand or before leaving the US, and the implications of potentially holding multiple visas. Comments from other users indicate that there are no fees before actual application for the LTR Visa, and transitioning from one visa to another, such as from Non-O to LTR, appears to be feasible.
LONG TERM RESIDENT (LTR) VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
This was in October, 2022. It took them a couple of months to get to my application. Once they started looking at it then it took a couple of weeks to get the approval. I scheduled an appointment at the BOI office in Bangkok. They finished a few more documents and then walked me over to the immigration office across the hall. There Immigration cancelled my OA visa and entered the ink stamps for my LTR. I paid the 50,000 baht that day in the Immigration office.
I went to the BOI website and used their online application. I should say that my finances are simple. I qualify for the pensioner LTR with a single work pension. I submitted my US 1040 tax return. It shows that I have only two sources of income - work pension + Social Security. They never questioned my finances. I already had an insurance policy to maintain my OA visa. I uploaded the same insurance certificate that I used for my OA visa extensions. I uploaded a copy of my passport.
You don't pay anything for LTR until you're actually applying for the visa, so there's no harm in applying for the qualification.
But you can contact the BOI to see what they say about having an active 1 year visa. They'll advise if you can switch while you already have an active visa or not
