TLDR: Thai driver's license used in EUROPE. Long version: Can you use a normal, 5 year Thai driving license to rent a car and drive in Europe? (NOT an IDP) (I'm sorry to post here, I will delete if nobody can help.)

TLDR : Answer Summary
A 5-year Thai driving license written in English is generally accepted for driving in Europe as a tourist, but specific rules vary by country. Some countries allow driving for a limited period (e.g., 185 days in the Netherlands), while others may require an International Driving Permit (IDP) or a translation of the license. It's crucial to check local regulations and insurance policies when planning to drive in Europe.

I've just returned from England hiring a car with a Thai licence not a problem But was unable to insure as named driver on my children's insurance

I also wanted to buy a second hand motor my friend was selling but no insurance company would accept me with a Thai licence

No I'm couldn't be listed on my sons or daughters motors as a named driver

Because they won't accept a Thai driving license.

That was my original plan as my son has 2 motors But as for a hire car and driving in the UK no problem on a Thai licence for 6 mths I believe

thanks for the info. excuse me, I am not sure I understand about the insurance. You are listed on your son's insurance policy in England, so they would not let you get care insurance for the rental vehicle?
