What type of visa should I enter Thailand with to apply for a non-O retirement visa?

I’m getting ready to apply for a non-o retirement visa…. I’m going to use an agent, which I have sat down and talked to already.

They’re going to help me out, including opening a bank account, etc.

He gave me two different prices, based on if I entered the country with a certain visa prior to filing for the retirement visa

What visa was he asking me to get, when I enter this next time so we could file for the retire retirement visa…? Any ideas…?

The fees were substantially different if I came in on a certain visa prior to filing for the retirement

Over $1000 USD difference

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is preparing to apply for a non-O retirement visa in Thailand and has engaged an agent who provided different pricing based on the visa used to enter the country. Community members suggest that the type of visa the agent is likely referring to is the 90-day non-O visa based on retirement, which can be extended yearly. Many commenters advise that applying for this visa from home could save considerable fees, and some suggest that the user might not need an agent if they meet certain requirements.

You should have asked the agent, and the agent should have told you.

But to help you out : almost 100% sure that it was the non-o based on retirement. This is a 90 day visa.

After you get this visa and enter Thailand, you arrange certain requirements to get your 1 year extension which you can extend yearly. These 1 year periods are called extensions.

You can do this completely by yourself. Or you can use your agent for this 1 year extension. Price depends on factors such as whether you have the required amount of money, or you want to use the agent to "dodge" this requirement.

If the agent has to also arrange your original 90 days non-o retirement in Thailand, the extra work (which includes opening bank account by agent) will make it more costly.

if you apply a visa non o retirement, and get it. And come to Thailand. Then the agent helps you to open a thai bank account. And you put 800K Thb or more into your thai bank, the agent helps you for your extension. In this case, the most cheapest price. But you must do most things by yourself, non o visa, and put your money into Thai bank. But if you do not put your money into Thai bank, and use agent help, it will be higher price. The most expensive option would be all in one service package. Yes you do not do anything. You just come to Thailand on visa free, or tourism visa, and the agent will do everything for you including, bank open and one year extension. The agent does it all for you. You do not need to do anything even putting 800K thb. This is the highest price.

If you spoke to a agent then why bother asking here. Agent should have filled you in already

Mick Schumann i’m clarifying.

I took a lot of notes and did a lot of research, but not familiar with the process, and I do not want to make a mistake.

Why, does this bother you so much that I am asking for clarification in a group designed to get answers and clarification…?

“ certain “ Visa

He needs to tell you what Visa you are actually getting

And I wouldn’t be paying them anything til you arrive

If you decide to go with the agent

You would save yourself more than 1000 USD by applying for a

Non-O single entry 90 day Visa from home

Then do the rest when you arrive

Get the Non O before you get to Thailand and you can open your own bank account dont need an agent unless you dont have the required 800k to deposit then you pay to grease the wheel.

If you manage to get a Non-O visa from the Embassy outside Thailand then extension of stay in Thailand, agent is not needed.

Just a guess but probably a 90 day Non-O visa based on retirement, then you would just need the extension of stay inside Thailand
