just checking to make sure you are aware of some explicit regulations that will affect you opening a retail business. First in setting up the business you will need a minimum of bt2million in registered capital, hire, and pay wages on at least 4 Thai employees in order to qualify for one work permit. Because of job restrictions, of jobs for Thais only, you personally as a foreigner can not do any selling to customers. You can't even run the cash register, as vending is a restricted occupation for Thais only, and selling to retail customers is considered vending. You can supervise, and consult, but you can not do any of the actual selling. One of your employees must be a licensed accountant because that is also a restricted occupation for Thais only, and a number of your regular filings with the government must be signed off by a licensed accountant. Lastly, you can not actually own anymore than 49% of your business. The rest must be owned by Thais. Your idea might have merit, just be fully aware of all the legal ramifications in doing it. If you still want to pursue it, Siam-Legal.com is very good, and works with a number of Americans in business here. They are a member of the American/Thai Chamber of Commerce. My wife is a licensed accountant and works with foreign business here. Good luck.
