Hi

I’m we are coming to Thailand. Where is best affordable place to rent in Thailand that is walking distance to fresh vegetables, kids activities and restaurants. We are retired but we have our grandchildren with us.
Answer summary
The question seeks recommendations for affordable places to rent in Thailand that are within walking distance of fresh vegetables, children’s activities, and restaurants, specifically for retirees traveling with grandchildren. Multiple commenters suggest that the question is too broad given the vastness of Thailand, urging the asker to specify a region or city. Areas like Hua Hin, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, and Pattaya are mentioned as potential options, with insights on local amenities, markets, and community attractions suitable for families.

Why are you moving to Thailand if you don't yet know the answers to your own questions? Have you been there yet? Are you feeling 'called to evangelize the heathen'?

What is wrong with some people? Asking such stupid questions.

Do you mean to move here or on holiday? Do the kids need school? Do you want beaches? And what do you mean by cheap? You want basic house, condo, villa, hotel?

Based on your incredibly vague question the only part I can answer is that every village in Thailand sells fresh fruit and vegetables! Jeez..

A small village nowhere near a beach for cheap. About 70 million people, so come and travel around, looking at locations, or obviously message land agents for rental prices/availablity.

Do the work.

There’s an evening market in Phimai that sells vegetables, a handful of restaurants nearby and relatively low rentals. Also got place for kids swimming, good schools etc.

IsaanThai5754 Good schools in rural Isarn? I don't think so. Best to stick with larger cities where international schools with non-Thai students actually exist.

Cheaper areas are where local residents live, away from tourist areas. Some rural provinces do have a city with some expats and English speaking locals. But you won't find Heinz Salad Cream, sourdough bread or a bottle of wine here. Maybe a few places will do western food, adapted like chicken steak or salmon and French pies. Language barrier can be a challenge and these places are generally not near the coast. So the question is how adaptable are you? Can you live near rice paddy fields and nightmarket that closes 9pm?

You might want to narrow that down a bit.. Thailand is a big country...

Bob Fom but that's not our decision is it..

Paul Anthony McDermott The question didn't ask for the cheapest place. It asked for an affordable place to rent in with (among other things) children's activities.

Rory Emond Very Burmese. However, there are of course plenty of NGOs there. A bit of an unusual choice for foreign "grandparents" looking after "grandchildren" though. Unless you have an existing connection to the town, stick with larger cities and established expat enclaves: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, outskirts of Pattaya, Koh Samui etc.
