I was originally told by my embassy that no visa extension letters would be issued. Then I considered trying again, thanks to the encouragement of this community. I made it clear in my 2nd attempt to detail my long-term plans here to work and live here, and the reasons I am fearful of returning home.

I just received word that I have been approved for a visa extension letter.

Take away lesson: do a better job at explaining your situation, or else you will not be considered at all. Attachments and references wouldn't hurt either.
