Timeline:
* Day 1: Submitted and paid online, London Embassy
* Day 2: Received a request for additional documents
* ~Day 10: Uploaded everything requested
* Shortly after: DTV approved
My circumstances:
* British citizen applying from the UK
* Sole Director and Owner of a UK-registered limited company
* Role is performed entirely remotely, for clients based outside Thailand
* Applied independently, without an agent
Financial evidence:
My original submission included two bank statements from an established UK savings account — one from several months earlier (April) and one current at the time of application — showing a stable balance comfortably above the required threshold throughout, with no recent large transfers to explain.
The Embassy did not raise any query on my financial evidence — it appears the two statements were accepted as submitted. Every application is assessed individually, so this shouldn't be read as a guarantee, but a stable, long-held balance shown across two dated statements seemed to be well received.
The Embassy's additional document request covered:
* A clearer, colour scan of my passport biodata and signature pages
* A short company profile document (my business is service-based with no public website, so I put together a one-page written summary of the company, its services, and its trading history in place of an online presence)
* A copy of my current client contract, alongside a letter from that client confirming the engagement and my remote-working role, addressed to the Embassy and signed by an authorised person on their side
* Evidence of personal income for the relevant tax year — in my case I no longer had access to a P60 from a previous employer that had since ceased trading, so I substituted official printouts from my HMRC personal tax account instead, which covered both income and tax paid for the year in question, and this was accepted
* A signed declaration confirming I would only work remotely for clients outside Thailand and would not undertake any employment or income-generating activity within Thailand
* A signed declaration confirming I would remain in the UK until the application had been decided
A few things that stood out in my case:
* Business owners/directors without a company website shouldn't assume that's a blocker — a clear written company profile covering services, trading history, and current client relationships seemed to work as a substitute.
* If a P60 or similar document isn't available (e.g. a former employer has closed down), HMRC's own online personal tax account can produce equivalent official income evidence — worth trying before assuming you're stuck.
* The client confirmation letter needed to come from the client's side, signed by someone there — evidence from my own company wasn't sufficient on its own for that particular request.
* The spouse (DTV3) application followed straight after, and went through with minimum hassle — much more straightforward than the main application.
Every application is assessed individually, but I hope this is a useful data point for other UK-based business owners/directors applying through London, and for spouses wondering whether the dependent visa is a big additional undertaking — in our case, it wasn't.
I'll be honest — Claude (Anthropic's AI) did a lot of the heavy lifting on this: drafting the company profile, the client confirmation letter, the declarations, and helping work out replacements for missing documents like the P60. If you're facing a pile of embassy paperwork, it's worth trying as a way to get organised and get first drafts done quickly.
Five-year, multiple-entry DTV approved for both of us. Hugely grateful for everything shared in this group — hope this helps someone else the way others' posts helped me.
