TLDR : Answer Summary
To open a bank account in Thailand with a Non-B visa and a work permit, you typically need a certificate of residency obtained from your local immigration office, your passport, work permit, and possibly a Thai SIM card. It's recommended to shop around different banks as some may have varying requirements or difficulties. Many expats have reported that SCB (Siam Commercial Bank) and Kasikorn Bank are easier to deal with compared to others, and KTB (Krung Thai Bank) was also mentioned positively. Remember to have passport photos ready and consider asking the bank in advance what specific documents they require.
You will also need 2 passport photo for the resident certificate. On my cert they asked which bank, and put the name of the bank on it. So might be worth call to the bank and ask what do you need to open account first.
Shop around for the best bank. If they put obstacles up go to the next one. Just take passport work permit and proof of residency such as a contract and work contract. KTB were fine.
Go to your local immigration office and get a certificate of residence. Then go to a mobile provider and get a Thai SIM registered against your passport if you don't already have one. Then go to the bank with your passport, work permit and the above and ask to open an account
Simon Paul i went today and they were asking for some kind of thai government id. I couldn’t hear it well but it sounds something like tet/tec/tep ID. 😅
ThrillingPomelo9766 You would have been ok with a Thai drivers license. I highly recommend anyone to get one as soon as possible when arriving. It carries a lot of benefits.
ThrillingPomelo9766 In udon Thani scb and Kasikorn were both very easy several years ago and they still are from what new teachers have said - try a different branch and say it is to transfer school salary
