What should I do about flight tickets when applying for a Non-O Visa while unsure of approval?

I am retired, want to ask for a Non-O-Visa for 90 days. They ask for a flight ticket, which I yet don’t have, because I don't know if my application will be approved. Suppose your application is rejected, but you have already bought a ticket. What then? Cancel your trip? You can't know something like travel dates in advance, can you? You don't want to risk losing the cost of your ticket if your application is rejected?

So complicated☹️.
Answer summary
The applicant expresses concern about needing to provide a flight ticket for a Non-O visa application, fearing that a rejection could lead to wasted money on a non-refundable ticket. Community responses clarify that typically flight tickets are not required; instead, applicants can provide flight details or a legitimate flight number. Options such as buying a refundable ticket, using dummy tickets, or gathering flight information without making an actual booking are suggested. Overall, it’s emphasized that as long as the visa requirements are met, the approval chances are high.

Possibly depends on where you are applying from but I wasn't asked to provide flight tickets - just details. I simply entered dates, flight numbers and times from Qatar's booking website. That was for a 90 Day Non O on E-Visa via the Thai Embassy in London.

Toon Hurkmans Well even though its an E-Visa, the application is dealt with by your local embassy/consulate. If they are asking for tickets - that's different to London. However, it could also be the rules for the type of visa. Mine (from London) was a Non O based on marriage whereas I guess you are applying for a Non O based on being over 50? I've seen people post about this before and they simply gave details of their planned flights and stated that they were not prepared to pay for a ticket when they were not sure their visa application will be successful. You could try e-mailing or phoning your embassy/consulate.

I looked at the date I wanted to travel then looked at the flights for that day. Picked one and had all the details application required. Then went out of booking flight. It was accepted

You need that flight and an onward ticket. We, my Thai wife and I, insured both flights just in case. I wasn't too worried about being approved, worst case scenario I could just enter on a visa exempt tourist stay with my passport. I did get approved 24 hours before my flight so I understand the anxiety. We had a bunch of paperwork to get to while there as it pertains to our 36 year marriage, our children, and her mom's home there. All of that took over 6 months and that is why we insured our onward ticket too. I learned a lot and we are going back in November. This time I will be on my one year extension of stay. I will extend this again on my next trip and try and apply for my driver's license. Again, it's a lot but if you prepare your documents properly, authenticated at home, you will be ready to just go and take that leap really. We ran into a problem with the Thai Consulate in Chicago. We were there two weeks before we left. They failed to sign a document and that stopped us in our tracks in Thailand at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was a whole story. Anyway, just go through it all and enjoy the education of being a Visa holder. Good luck

You just need a Reservation to Show. So just look out what Flights and not need to Book now.

They only need your intended flight. No actual booking is required. Just check possible flights and use a relevant flight number. I once booked a flight and due to a delay ended using an entirely different flight with a different airline. No problem. Immigration have no concerns with this. And there is no record on your visa document.

Martin Milwood would there be a problem if flight ticket details do not match up with TDAC details ?
Martin *********
Martin *********
John Emmonds The TDAC should match your flight ticket. The TDAC can only be completed 72 hours before departure. If your flight should change in that short window then you can update the TDAC

I didn't book a flight until visa was approved. On the application I gave a flight number and a date, the one I was planning to fly out on.

No onward ticket needed or asked to be shown. I flew out a week after approval.

Some airlines let you exchange for no cost. Check the airlines, hopefully they still do since fuel prices are crazy.

Unless you're a complete loser with insufficient funds and are known as a wrong 'un to the Thai authorities you won't be refused. Don't sweat over it. As others have said look up a flight number and schedule and use that, or use a site where you can book, get a confirmation and then cancel, which I find a little unfair on the victim but you can book again 'honestly' if you feel bad.

You do not have to buy a ticket same as you do not have to have a booked hotel or rental. Everything is based on, "Planned flight, planned dates, planned location of stay." I have never been asked to provide an actual purchased ticket or hotel booking.

I just applied for the e-Visa and they wanted proof of purchase of the flight. I would pay extra for a refundable ticket. Maybe discuss the issue with the airline.

Evan Mcintosh There is no requirement to upload any flight tickets for a non o. I don't understand why people over complicate this.
Luc ************

Evan Mcintosh now they dont. Read the application again. It asks for flight details, not a ticket.

Pick valid detail, I dont think a ticket copy is required. Your visa is not tied to a specific flight

I’m at the same stage.

I’m waiting to book a flight.

My visa company has just asked for a flight number which I’ll arrive on, not an actual ticket.

We bought our tickets beforehand. Do you meet all of the requirements? If so, there should be no reason why you would be rejected.

As long as you financially meet the requirements for the type O 90 day visa, then it's about 98% chance you will be approved. That is the easiest non-im visa to get.

Go to a local travel agent and get them to provide you with a dummy flight ticlet; it might cost you a few Euros, but it will look real to the authorities if they want to check.

You can generally get away with looking up a suitable time and flight number that you'd probably use.

I don't think it's a confirmed reservation

Unless your talking about where you prove you are currently not in Thailand.

Toon Hurkmans as
@Tony *******
said, just pick the dates and flight numbers that you may be on if the visa is granted.

And there should be a ticket box to say return flight not confirmed at this stage. Or something like that.

Tony ********

Toon Hurkmans Understood, I just know when you make your evisa application there are multiple times you can use a flight ticket,

Proving your not in Thailand is one instance,

It's also available to use where it asks for travel or arrival details,

Just trying to figure out which question you are having problems with
