Can anyone help me with the correct procedures of registering an already legal Australian marriage in thailand please. Australian male married to thai female. Thank you. Currently living in Australia
Answer summary
To register an Australian marriage in Thailand, first authenticate your marriage certificate with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) in Australia. Then, have it stamped by the Thai embassy in Australia. Upon arrival in Thailand, you'll need to translate the marriage certificate and verify it with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). Additionally, your passport needs similar authentication and translation processes. Inquiries suggest using local translation services and considering hiring legal assistance to streamline the process.

If you need a document translated let me know we used a great company in Bangkok.
Bangkok Translation and Interpretation Service absolutely brilliant
You need to get the certificate authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs in Australia then stamped by the Thai embassy in Australia. When you get to Thailand you need to get it translated and verified by the MFA
Mitch O'Keefe You also need your passport authenticated and translated and verified by MFA. Passport is authenticated at Aus embassy Bangkok. I used Sawadee Translations located in Asoke, not far from Aus embassy. Once translated they can take to MFA. I had it done last September. Took about 1 week.
Marriage Australian man/Thai woman, in Bangkok, I was told (email from nsw.gov.au/family-and-relationships/marriages)
Recognition of overseas marriages
Overseas marriages cannot be registered in Australia and you cannot be issued an Australian marriage certificate if you have been married overseas. However, the marriage will usually be legally recognised in Australia, if:
it’s legally recognised in the country you were married
it would be considered legal if the marriage had taken place in Australia.
You’ll need to have:
registered your marriage in the country where it took place
have evidence of the marriage, such as a marriage certificate and any other supporting documents.
