TLDR : Answer Summary
Importing an e-bike into Thailand is complex and generally discouraged. New e-bikes from the USA can be imported, but they often face high taxes that can exceed 100% of the value. Used e-bikes are prohibited. Many residents recommend purchasing e-bikes locally to avoid the costs and bureaucracy associated with imports. Some claim that e-bikes are illegal in Thailand in terms of taxation and insurance; however, others state that electric bicycles are commonly used with relaxed enforcement. Engaging a licensed customs broker is necessary if you attempt the import, and there are significant risks involved.

Yes, you can import a new e-bike from the USA to Thailand, but it is generally restricted, expensive, and complex, often with taxes exceeding 100% of the value. Most residents advise against it, recommending local purchase to avoid high costs and hassle.

The battery's on ebikes are generally not allowed to be transported on aircraft as they are too big, only can be shipped by sea. Here is the DJI Amflow dealer in Thailand, if you want to go to that level, which I ride in Oz at 73 yrs.

E BIKES are illegal in thailand, as the DMV (department of motor vehicles) does not recognise them as a motor vehicle, so they can not be taxed or insured, or driven on public roads, paths, parks ect. they are easy to obtain, many places sell them, but when the man in the brown uniform put his hand out, your the one that will be up in court, fines, or worse will all be yours.

Gerald Ryan Bullshit, this is what Copilot said about it. 🇹🇭 Are e‑bikes legal in Thailand?

Yes. Electric bicycles, scooters, and small electric motorcycles are legal and commonly used across Thailand — in Bangkok, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Chiang Mai, and most tourist areas. There is no single unified “e‑bike law”, but enforcement is generally relaxed for personal-use electric vehicles.

It’s not possible as they are prohibited items as I tried to import mine last October when I moved here, the shipping company said it would be fine but when I inquired to customs they told me definitely not, I’ve ordered a new one from a dealer in Bangkok and hopefully should be here early next month 🤞
