What should I do if I need to cancel my expired Non B visa before applying for an extension in Thailand?

Came to Chaeng Wattana immigration for a Non B extension and the officer on the counter told me to go to the south where my previous visa was issued and stamp the passport with a cancellation stamp.

That visa has been expired and I even travelled abroad and got a new Non B already.

Has anyone ever been in the same situation?
