Anonymous participant 128 Well not plain sailing for some. A few IOs struggled with understanding the DTV on arrival and even with extensions.

Never been asked on arrival. A couple of times by airlines but once they are aware of having a long term visa such as the DTV there is no issue.

Yeah it's becoming routine now, long may the smooth silk DTV entries continue.

Congrats! Thanks for the very useful breakdown of your application process

It's not a popular embassy to apply from so there are very few reports from there.

Residency is no longer required to apply in Japan. I recommend making use of the pre DTV application service, Tokyo Embassy offers to ensure a successful application. A couple of recent applicants were given 6 month METVs instead of the DTV.

The 500k hould be in an readily accessible bank account. American embassies are more flexible with where it's kept

It is probably better to apply as a remote worker if you can. There is no minimum income requirement. I was similar to you, I only had one contract I could apply with that qualified for the DTV but it was very limited income. All the embassies I contacted told me to apply regardless of income. I got mine via Taipei which is among the stricter embassies. 2m THB savings will be a big plus.
