@Phil *****
it is actually very simple once you've done it.

No worries.

Simply you do not have to work to remain in Thailand and only require a work permit.

As has been said, control of your visa status.

no that is not correct.

When you apply for the 90 day non-o in country there is an under consideration, which has no real bearing on the visa.

That is why you need at least 15 days left on your tourist stamp to apply.

They may come and do a visit if they choose.

The original 90 day non-o is your visa type.

The 1 yr extension is not a visa at all, it is an extension off the original 90 day non-o which you can extend each year as long as you continue to meet the requirements.

if you are old enough and have the funds do a non-o based on retirement.

Some embassy allow a non-o 1 year multi entry visa based on retirement.

You would select non-o and instead iof single, check multiple.

I have seen this visa.

if you look at this article it clearly states:

"The meeting has considered many key points of this visa. It is important to note that the policies discussed are still in the development phase and not yet enforceable."

a 90 day non-o in country requires a bank account and funds.

A non-o 90 day bought from an embassy outside Thailand does not.
