What i hear the most: you need work permit or letter embassy. The lady was kind enough to let me take a photo of one from my country ( bangkok bank emquartier branch). I try to attach to this post. Bring as many papers as you can find. If they see many "official" letters fir example bank statement from your home bank. They love paper here. And sign every copy. No matter if it’s intended to be signed or not. Makes you look important. I opened mine on a tourist visa 3 yrs ago. Now i wanted another one because the branch i opened it is too far. They can’t move you, only open a 2nd account with the same bank. So make sure to search in the area you live in first. If i lose my Bank book, i don’t want to drive 4 hours just to visit my "home branch", where they send you when you have a problem later

I rented from a weird owner once. And of course he didn’t register me within the time he needed to. So when they asked which hotel i live i said that i rent. They wanted to see the tabien ban. All i had was a receipt of my rent payment. I think they just didn’t want to do much work, so they stamped the extension. It’s definitely easier when you live in a hotel. But 3 months hotel in Phuket would be crazy

Just try another branch, and then another. I needed to visit some more to get online banking working. I could do it myself at the atm. But didn’t know that lol

i use the wise debit card for everything here. Food delivery to pay phone/electricity bill. I have swiss franks on it, convert to thb with a fair exchange rate and almost no fees

Wise card is a mastercard debit. You can use it like a prepaid "credit card". I use it to pay for grab, foodpanda, lazada and even phone and Internet bills
